XTP2000 in Twickenham, Middlesex

XTP2000’s, finished in copper, were retro-fitted either side of a modernist iron fireplace in 2000. Although previously used extensively in Greenland and Denmark, the Twickenham retro-fit nine years ago was XTPDesign’s first UK sale.

The current home-owners moved into a 1970’s built end-of-terrace house with a large open-plan living/dining room. They installed the fireplace to give the room a focal point and the valves either side of it to provide passive ventilation in line with building regulations.

“Having invested in a beautiful fireplace, the last thing the home-owners wanted to do was ruin the look of the room by installing cheap plastic valves,” explains XTPDesign director Torben Pryning.

The valves are fitted flush with the outside of the house, which is finished in white brick. Retrofitting the units was simply a matter of drilling through the outside wall and cementing the units into place.

Adds Pryning: “The valves compliment the fireplace and the design aesthetic inside the home whilst serving a necessary function. This is exactly what they were designed to do.”
